I remember taking Amtrack from the Bay Area to Denver in the early 1970’s. I am sure my experience was not so different from yours even after all those years. Great video story Brad. Since then, I have ridden France’s TGV and Japan’s Shinkansen. The designs of each are so much more modern and culturally reflective. Will the USA infrastructure just slowly rust and crumble away?

Thanks for watching and commenting, Phil! And for the kind words. I can bet your 1970s ride was as bumpy, but the cars were updated in the 80s! But compare to modern high speed rail, that’s means little.

It’s hard to imagine the US ever getting high speed rail, but I met the form Director of Operations at SeaTac over dinner on the train (forced community dining is awesome).

He believes we won’t have an alternative. Everybody wants new and expanded airports, but nobody wants to live by one or drive too far for one so they don’t get approved. He thinks the Denver airport was the last major greenfield airport to be built in America. That leaves high speed rail. He said, “It’s what any sensible country does with the means to do so.” But he agreed we’re not quite yet a sensible country. 😏
