Great article, Brad. We’ve got a lot to overcome in this country to see changes that do good. Fear of what lurks on the other side of progress, of cultures, and many biases prevent us from moving toward a better world. We can have hope that people will change… someday.

I think you're spot on. Fear need not lead to anger, but it does take some effort to pause and examine that fear before acting.
Utopia may not be achievable, but steps toward it certainly are.
The fact that measure passed by a 2 to 1 margin is evidence of a majority of people taking those steps one vote at a time. It will (hopefully) yield changes to L.A. that will influence behavior (and other cities), people (including resistant fire fighters) will adapt, and an imperfect utopia will take shape...and continue to be shaped in infinitum.
